Glossy Box #2 - June 2011

Sooo I know that everyone is probably sick of reading about the June Glossy Box by now, so this is going be short and sweet!

My summary of my intial opinions are:
Body Buff - I can't wait to try this, I am expecting good things from it!
Batiste Dry Shampoo - The item that 'upset' most people. I will definitely use this however it is not 'high end' which is what annoyed everyone.
BioEffect Serum - Not tried this yet either. Will give it a go and perhaps pass on to someone else.
OPI Mini Nail Polish - A nice colour, and yes it's very small but they're samples, what do you expect?!
Perles de Lalique Eau de Parfum - I quite like this perfume, though it's not one I would usually go for. If my mum prefers it she can have it!

So all in all, not as extravagant as the first box, however this was sort of to be expected.  The whole Glossy Box concept is still a relatively new one; it will take a while before more beauty and cosmetic companies and brands are willing to get on board and provide sample products, while the company proves itself (or not, whichever the case may be)...

Slightly annoying point; my name was removed from my box!  Probably in transit, but still a bit weird that my name was on a removable sticker?

I do believe (as many others do) that it would be better for all their customers if Glossy Box could set a date for taking the £10 payment and also a date for despatch.  The lack of emails from the company is a bit unsettling, and if you don't follow them on Twitter then you basically could hear nothing about your box from one month to the next!  Also new customers joining the subscription at the minute are being told that they will not receive their first box until August, or possibly September?  There should be some sort of cut-off date for signing up, or at least a notice stating which months are sold out before people sign up.

Finally, on Friday, when Twitter was going berserk with unhappy Glossy Box recipients, they announced that from September onwards, the boxes will be £10 per month, plus £2.95 shipping!  Not what people expected, and a bad time to announce this change.  However, if the July and August boxes hold peoples' interest, then no doubt they won't lose too many subscribers.

There is already talk though, of a new company, Boudoir Privé, who plan to launch on 1st July.  They will provide a similar subscription too, except with 6 luxury samples per month.  I have already signed up to see what all the fuss is about..... what?! I need something to cheer me up when I have no job!!

Anyways, that was longer than I had anticipated.  If you are at all interested, here is my video on the whole matter

End of An Era

Tomorrow is going to be a rather sad day; my last day in my job.  Then.... I am minus job and minus money.

I am sending off application forms and CVs quite often at the minute, which is good, but it's worrying on the days that no relevant jobs appear on that cursed Job Centre Online website.  All I can do is keep trying.  I am really trying to be positive and upbeat about things, as I am looking forward to starting a new job and seeing what else is out there for me; it can just be so disheartening in the interim.

Alas, this could be my final work OOTD, depending on what I have to do tomorrow...

To anyone and everyone out there in a similar situation; let's stay positive :) What's for you won't go by you...

P.S.: It's also great craic ringing your local Citizen's Advice Bureau over and over and over again, and getting no answer.  I recommend you try it...

NYC Series - Part 3

For Part 3 of the NYC Series let's talk...

Fiona kindly sent me six nail varnishes to try; three from the Minute range and three from the Expert Last range.  Today I'll focus on the Minute range!  I have been very impressed by these polishes, overall...

(L-R) Spring Street, Greenwich Village, SoHo
These polishes promise, as one might imagine, to dry in a 'New York' minute!  I haven't timed them with a stopwatch or anything precise, but they do dry fairly fast; by the time I've given all my nails one coat, the first nail is dry enough for a second coat - about that fast!  They also have a great brush (should have taken a photo of it too - d'oh!) it's flat and quite wide, for really easy application.  The formulation and consistency of these polishes is great; thick but not gloopy or hard to work with.  I thought they went on really smoothly, with great pigmentation and most only needed one coat!

NYC Minute - 'Spring Street'
This deep tangerine shade is not a colour that I would usually choose for myself, however I am very glad that I was sent this polish, as I now love it.  The below photos were taken after only one coat of this polish!  Perfect if you are getting ready in a rush.  I wouldn't say it was totally opaque after one coat; two would be necessary for total coverage but as the photos illustrate, it looks very opaque after one and you could definitely achieve opacity in one coat if you apply it carefully.

NYC Minute - 'Greenwich Village'
This deep hot pink polish is gorgeous; not too girly a shade of pink, very slight purple undertones and really eye catching!  Another firm favourite of mine now. (It also looks beautiful with a matte topcoat over it, FYI)  Again, the below photos were taken after one coat:

NYC Minute 'SoHo'
This pale pink shade is the most 'everyday' wearable of the three, however this is the one I had the most bother with.  Not that it was highly bothersome, I just thought this polish was slightly less pigmented than the others.  Perhaps it's just the nature of a paler polish that you need at least two coats, though?  The below photo was taken after two coats, however I still felt that it wasn't totally opaque for me...

I applied a third coat and after this I felt it looked better, however so many coats extended the drying time a bit!  I find that this is the case with most nail polishes though:

So mainly a huge thumbs up from me for the NYC Minute nail polishes!  These are a very affordable £1.79 each and have a large selection of colours.  I am definitely going to buy some more for myself and these could possibly overtake BarryM Nail Paints in my favourites stakes... Watch this space!.  Have any of you tried these polishes?  If not, I highly recommend that you give them a go!

See you next time for some more NYC Series action!

Keep on Dreaming

Yesterday and today I'm off work... I could get used to this.  Not done anything highly exciting, just lazed about really.  Slightly annoyed today because my Glossy Box hasn't arrived yet, and I keep seeing tweets about it being Scheiße, which has geared me towards disappointment... as such, I have also put my name on the list for Boudoir Privé, which is similar to Glossy Box and promises 6 samples a month for £10... sign up here!

Anyways, yesterday's outfit:
Jeans - Internacionale
Top - Local shop
Cardi - Present from Poland
Scarf - Primark
I rarely show my shoes in OOTD shots these days, mainly because I tend to wear my trusty studded flat pumps from Shoezone almost every day!  I haven't treated myself to new shoes in ages.  I suppose I don't need any, my mum would argue, but at the minute I just can't afford any, sadly.  Doesn't mean I can't browse designer shoe websites and dream...

Cue Chie Mihara.  A Spanish brand that not only produce aesthetically pleasing footwear, but comfortable as well - this actually sounds like a dream come true to me; I never seem to find comfortable heels!

Chie Mihara is the Spanish footwear label for women that has become synonymous with gorgeous designer shoes that are as comfortable as they are desirable. Clever cushioned inner-soles and concealed platform designs allow you to wear the highest of Chie Mihara heels all day and into the night...Chie Mihara shoes and sandals for modern women who want comfort but won't compromise on fashion.

Here are a few pairs that I'm coveting...
Chie Mihara Kitten Heel Shoes
I think these brown and white shoes are adorable!! I think they would look great with my chinos... very retro chic :)
Chie Mihara Festin Suede Tassel Shoes
These raspberry red/pink heels are beautiful... more of a work-appropriate shoe for me, but they're so nice I would be tempted to just prance about the house in them, for fear that they get ruined!
Chie Mihara Black Suede Wedge Sandals
Wedges; perfect summer style shoes.  If these were as comfortable as they promise to be, I imagine it would be like walking on marshmallows.... but I'm probably setting my expectations too high ;)

The Chie Mihara official site is also as amazing as the shoes!!  I am forever a sucker for nude and taupe shoes, and wish I had the funds for these...

Chie Mihara Ante Taupe Sandals
What are the most comfortable shoes you've ever bought?  Do such wondrous shoes exist?!  Do let me know!!

Wednesday Wanderings

Hi everyone,

Today's post is just going to be a bit of a rant and ramble, so apologies in advance if that's not your cuppa tea!

I hope you don't mind a day's departure from clothes and make up; I took photos this morning of my outfit but have now realised that I have neither USB lead nor card reader to get the photos on the computer... fail.  I finish up in work next week, which is quite sad... I am going to miss my job, as I like the people I work with (which I think is a big deal in any job) and I find this job interesting.  I will definitely miss the wages!  However, I am looking forward to getting a new job and starting a new 'era' in my life; I only hope that a new job comes along sooner rather than later!

Last week I had three interviews on Monday; one in a gorgeous hotel and two in an office in Belfast.  I had to ask my boss whether I could get the day off, of course, to attend the interviews.  This wasn't a problem, and he then suggested that I just work three days a week for my last few weeks in work, and I could choose which days... Now.  At first I was quite angry.  To me, losing two days' wages a week is a lot of money, which I was depending on, as I am trying to save as much as I can for impending unemployment.  However I think that my boss was trying to be helpful, so that should other interviews arise, I would have the flexibility to attend and work around them (though this no doubt saves the firm a few pennies too, considering that I'm being let go due to financial reasons).

So basically, money has seriously decreased as of last week :( I attended the three interviews, and they all went alright, though I didn't really fancy the Belfast jobs once I was in the place.  I got rejection letters from the Belfast place, which wasn't surprising but not highly disappointing either; it does sting slightly as all rejection letters do, but I knew it wasn't the job for me.  I've had no word back about the other one yet, so I'd say that's looking unlikely also.

Jobs are so few and far between at the minute, it is absolutely sickening and disheartening.  I am checking job websites every day, and even if 50 new jobs are advertised, there might only be one I can apply for, if any.  It is unbelievable.  I was job hunting this time last year and jobs were definitely not as thin on the ground as they are now.  I don't think I was able to send off one application form last week!  I sent off two on Monday though, and have a few more I need to get done, so I am crossing every opposable limb that I find a decent, and hopefully enjoyable, job soon!

When I first started writing this post, from this point onwards it descended in to a rant regarding the "Equality Monitoring Forms" that come with job applications.  Then Blogger lost everything.  So I have decided not to include it this time round, as NI religion and politics don't exactly have much to do with his blog really!  Point in hand: these forms are nosy and inappropriate!!

Anyways, that's about all really.  I am off tomorrow and Friday win - and on Sunday my mum etc. go on holidays for a week so I have the house all to myself! i.e.: parrrrtay peace and quiet.

I hope you all have an enjoyable day.  Let me lighten the mood after that spiel with my latest 'bloopers' video :)

NYC Series – Part 2

Welcome to Part 2 in my New York Color Series! Today the products in question are those for…
Here is an overview of the three lip products I was sent to try:
(L-R) Liquid Lipshine, Kiss Gloss, Ultra Last Lipwear
I am very impressed with them overall. So, let’s get down to the specifics!…

Liquid Lipshine – ‘Brighton Beach Peach’

This lipshine is a gorgeous pink-ish peach gloss with a slight hint of shimmer. It smells like vanilla or toffee, similar to BarryM lip wands, and the scent is light and not sickly. The gloss isn’t at all sticky, it glides on smoothly and adds a beautiful, peachy slick of colour to the lips. I can honestly say that this is now one of my favourite lip glosses and has made its way in to my everyday make up bag! As mentioned in yesterday’s post, this gloss over my MAC Shy Girl lipstick is my new favourite lip combination. Very pleased with this! I was in Superdrug yesterday and saw that these retail in Superdrug for a bargainous £2.99! I know I will be stocking up on some more colours from their large selection.

Kiss Gloss – ‘Murray Hill Melon’

This tube of gloss looks a vivid hot pink, which I thought I’d never get away with wearing at first, however when applied it is actually very wearable, and only gives a slight hint of colour to your lips. These tubes are my least favourite lipgloss applicators, though! The product has a nice, fruity scent to it, and is slightly thicker and stickier in consistency than the Liquid Lipshine. It does give a fantastic shine and gloss to the lips though! These are also available in a selection of shades and are £1.59 each!

Ultra Last Lipwear Lipstick – ‘Blue Rose’

I am nothing if not honest; this blue toned fuchsia pink lipstick terrified me at first!!   I tend to steer clear of bright lip colours, as you probably know, and stick to nude lipsticks. Should I be totally honest here?… Aye why not; well basically, I really didn't expect much from this item. As a lipstick that retails for £1.49, my expectations were pretty low; I was having flashbacks to the lipsticks of my childhood, bought in the most garish colours available from my local chemist, that smelled like plastic and made your lips go all dry and flakey! So I must hold my hands up and admit that this lipstick totally surprised me and exceeded my expectations. It has a beautiful violet sheen, depending on the lighting, and is not drying on the lips at all; it’s lovely and creamy to apply. The colour is opaque and not for the faint-hearted. This would look stunning paired with the right eye make up, if you’re brave enough! Sadly the true colour was also mighty difficult to capture on camera, it’s much brighter in real life:

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post, as I have really enjoyed these lip products! I really do rate them and would definitely recommend that you try them too. Please let me know if you do! There are NYC stands in most Superdrugs so keep an eye out :) Oh, and lest I forget the obligatory hand swatch…
See you in Part 3 of my New York Color Series!

Lazy Sunday OOTD

I hope you all had an enjoyable weekend!  As yesterday was Sunday, a day when I generally do.... well, not very much really, I rarely make an effort with my clothes.  Yesterday was one such day!  Cue comfy hoody:

'Made in the 80s' Hoody - Dunnes
Jeans - Internacionale
This hoody was such a random find in Dunnes last year, but I love it more than I should, probably.  It is garish and neon but I don't care, as I was made in the 80s and it is so comfy.  It has also received some compliments in its' time!  By the way, I hope you all enjoyed my video OOTD in yesterday's post?  It seemed to go down well on YouTube anyway :)

In other news, I have discovered my current favourite lip combination....

Keep an eye out for more on the NYC LipShine tomorrow....

Sleek i-Divine Original Palette, China Glaze 'Lighthouse' Nail Polish, OPI 'Rosy Reflection' Nail Polish, Soap & Glory Girligo Moisturiser, Miners Sun Blushed Duo, necklace from my favourite jewellery shop.

This necklace is from my favourite local jewellery shop, Connie's Crafts. It sells beautiful, handmade jewellery and is my go-to shop when I need some new bling!  This necklace has black and clear stones with three large marbled stones.  It was the last one on display of this type, otherwise I'd have got one for myself too!

I thought this OPI Nail Polish 'Rosy Reflection' was gorgeous; a metallic, dusky pink colour.

I bought this China Glaze Nail Polish in 'Lighthouse' a few weeks ago (read the post here) and it's fab, so I got another one for the winner!

I have one of the Soap & Glory Girligo Spray-on Body Moisturising Mists and it's really lovely; a fresh, girly scent and not heavy or greasy on the skin.  A good size to take with you if you're travelling too.

I got the Sleek i-Divine Original Palette for the giveaway as I've heard so many good thing about it; I didn't have enough to buy one for myself otherwise I would have, so you guys had priority!!  This also means I can't show you the inside, as I don't want to open it! For a look at the eye shadows, click here.

I have been using the Miners Sun Blushed Duo for a while now and really like it as my everyday blusher.  I thought I would include one in this giveaway so that someone else has the chance to try it.

Friday Bling

Thank goodness I am off work today!  I had a highly stressful day yesterday that, thankfully, turned out ok in the end, and last night I got twelve much needed hours of sleep.  I have had a slightly lazy day today which is fantastic for a change.

June is the month of shorts, one would think... well, in Northern Ireland it's the month of shorts and thick black tights! Rain and more rain, ugh.

This jacket is a real throwback to my student days; I remember buying it in a punk/goth shop in Leicester and being so proud as I thought it was so original.... then I got home for the summer to discover that it was being sold in every TK Maxx in the country for about £6 cheaper; gah!

I got these earrings at the time especially to go with the jacket, ha!  I do love a bit of funky jewellery and try to add to my collection every so often.  I really want to invest in some gorgeous Vivienne Westwood Jewellery - just look at these pieces:

Vivienne Westwood Womens Enamel Magenta Pink Orb Earrings

These are stunning and rather affordable at £51.00... if and when I get a new job, I may have to treat myself!  If I'm going to remain broke, however, this pair may be more within my price range:

Vivienne Westwood Womens Pink Heart Orb Earrings

These are so pretty and feminine yet have that edge, as with all Vivienne Westwood items; I want them muchly and they are a reasonable £46.... if I were to blow my budget completely though, it would definitely be on this ring (I'm a sucker for rings):

Vivienne Westwood Womens Too Fast To Live Too Young To Die Silver Multi Ring

HOW cool is that?!  At £105 though, I may keep on dreaming... I can just imagine me spending over £100 on a ring and it falling down the sink or something; that would be my luck!

Do any of you lucky ladies own any Vivienne Westwood pieces?  And, indeed, are you also still wearing tights in June?!  I dreamt last night that it was snowing; I might not be far wrong....
