OOTD & FOTD - Friday

Hi everyone,

Here is my outfit and make up from Friday, which was another beautiful sunny day. Sadly, I spent most of it cleaning and cooking so the only time I got to enjoy the sun was when I went to the shop for the ingredients for dinner!

I bought this MAC Lovedust lipstick from Miss Budget Beauty's blogsale for £9. From the photo it seemed a shimmery nude colour and to be honest, I should have done more research before I bought it!! It is a matte lipstick, a nude that leans towards gold with tiny flecks of glitter/shimmer in it. I was slightly disappointed at first but it has grown on me, and I will definitely get use out of it for nights out with a dark, smoky eye. Apparently it's discontinued too, so would be hard to come across otherwise.

Anyway, clothes and make up aside, I am very nervous today because I start my new job tomorrow! Help!! I am so scared... and the thought of how early I am going to have to get up is making me feel sick! I have very much enjoyed having July off, even though I spent most of it doing painting work.

The point is, I don't think I will be able to do blog posts or videos as regularly. I will try my best, however it may take a week or two for me to adjust to my new schedule. I will be getting up at 6am (or possibly earlier) travelling to Belfast, working until 5pm, then not getting home until 6 or 6.30pm. I will barely have enough time for dinner, shower, and a visit to my boyfriend before bed at 10pm. Weekends will be my main free time so once I get used to my new routine I will do my best to blog regularly again.

Wish me luck!!!

Fundraising With Food

Happy Saturday all!

I have a food related post today. Last week a friend of mine decided that she wanted to hold a fundraiser to help the current crisis in Africa. She is one of the most considerate people I know and I was truly touched that she was taking the responsibility on herself to organise the event. She sent a message out to all her Facebook friends asking for help in some way; either donating clothes, books, DVDs etc. for the jumble sale, offering to face paint, bake buns to sell and so on.

My mum had recently done a clear out and so was able to contribute four bags of clothes, and I offered to make some buns for it. I then decided against buns because of transportation issues! Therefore, I thought traybakes would be the way forward.... Malteser Squares and homemade fudge. Winning. So I thought I would share the recipes with you.

I've used the fudge recipe before, after adapting it from a recipe I found on Cookie Baker Lynn's blog some time ago. The original recipe (click here) is for peanut butter fudge, which I love, but for a fundraiser I thought I would omit that, as peanut butter may not be to everyone's taste. Also, the original uses marshmallow creme, a product which is not readily available in the UK, so I made do with regular marshmallows! Be warned, as Lynn says, this stuff is addictive. And full of sugar. And you will gain half a stone by just looking at these pictures. (Sorry)

Homemade Fudge:

1.  Butter a pan (I used a 9 x 9 inch foil tray)

 2.  Combine sugar, butter and evaporated milk in a heavy saucepan (I just used the largest in the house).

Bring to a full roiling boil, stirring constantly. Continue boiling over medium heat for five minutes, stirring constantly to avoid scorching. (I do not recommend attempting to take photos during this process. You will get splashed with boiling hot sugar and it is not fun! Believe me!)

3.  Remove from heat. Add the vanilla and marshmallows and beat until well blended and smooth.

4.  Pour the (very hot) mixture into your buttered tray and cool at room temperature. When cool, refrigerate until completely set.

5.  When firm cut in to squares.

Malteser Squares
(Recipe from Nigella's website)

1.  Melt together the butter, chocolate and syrup, then add the crushed digestive biscuits and the Maltesers.

2.  Mix together quickly then pour in to a lined swiss roll tin (again, I just a 9 x 9 inch foil tray). Chill until set the cut in to squares.

3.  For a special occasion drizzle with melted white chocolate.

As you can see, the photo-taking-during-fudge-making experience put me off taking photos for the traybakes; apologies! I hope you like these recipes, and if you make them please let me know! I hope they are getting a good reception at the fundraiser today.

FOTD - Saturday Night Out

I didn't get a chance to take a photo of my Saturday night outfit, sadly, but I did get some make up photos taken before I went out. I based this look on my Rose McGowan Inspired Make Up Look, as I thought it would go well with the tan coloured dress I was wearing. I was very dubious about this look, as for a night out I'm usually all about smoky, dark eyes and nude lips. So to wear more toned down eye make up and red lipstick was a first for me. When my boyfriend called round I fully expected a joke to be made about my lipstick, and while he was shocked at first he then said it looked nice, which was a surprise! My friend also complimented it, so I may be more adventurous with the lipstick in future.

(Only downside is how f***ing yellow it makes my teeth look!! Eugh! They're really not!)

Face:

Nouveau Lashes (from July Glossy Box - I lost them after this! Gutted!)
So that was my first foray in to the red lip realm! I also loved the lashes from the Glossy Box and was so annoyed at losing them after one night! Typical!

OOTD - Sunny Sunday

Sunday was a beautiful day here, so I made the most of it (and the remnants of Saturday's fake tanning session) by donning a skirt. It actually felt like summer - my favourite day of the year in NI!

Vest Top - George @ Asda
Denim Skirt - Alibi Clothing (it's ancient! This is name on the label!)
Bracelets - Pilgrim
Leopard Flats - Primark (unseen)
I also rejoiced in the opportunity to wear make up again.

Lips:NARS Satin Finish Lipstick Honolulu Honey
Bourjois 3D Effect Gloss Beige Elastique

I hope you're all having a good week so far. Today I am going to 'sign on' and the sign off because I start my new job on Monday - ARRRGHH!! I am terrified!!

On a lighter note, I finished painting yesterday!! The kitchen, living room, study and  hallway are all done and I have merely a few days to myself before a life of 6am starts and not returning home til 6pm. Joyous!!

OOTD - Comfort Above All

I love being comfortable when I am having a relaxing evening. I wore this when I was lounging around on Friday evening. The dress and belt can be seen in my haul video here. Hair courtesy of Umberto Giannini Tousled Salt Spray... I think I've finally got the hang of using it!

Dress - H&M
Belt - Primark
Leopard Flats - Primark
I think this dress will be very handy for my holiday in September, so I might pick up another in a different colour to throw in ye olde suitcase!

Not very exciting but I am so sick of wearing my painting clothes that any opportunity to dress up is not to be missed!!

Monday Montage #4

1.  July Glossy Box:  The July Glossy Box arrived! I am very happy with this month's items. I believe there was much more variety this month too with several different products sent, which is good. You can read my full post on the box here and watch my video on it here!

2.  Shopping:  I did a little bit of shopping throughout the week, hehe! Mainly for work shoes (new job starts next week WHAAAAT how did that happen?!) Haul video coming soon :)

3. I ♥ My Camera top:  This top was a total steal - £3 from George @ Asda!! Summarises every blogger, really!

4. Holiday:  I'm going on holiday to Orlando, Florida! It is officially booked and paid, as is the hotel!! Scary stuff and it's the most money I've ever spent on myself (feel nauseous at the thought) but I am so excited. I will be like a big child at the theme parks, and God love my boyfriend on the day we go to the Florida Mall...

5.  Painting:  Yes, I am still at the painting!! Have completed the kitchen, living room and computer room so just the hall and landing to go! I love painting but am seriously sick of it now!!

6. The Cure:  I know there really is no cure for a hangover, but for me Lucozade is one of the few things that eases the pain slightly. I could not do a hair of the dog cure, no chance! This is slightly more manageable!

7. Housework:  My mum etc. are away on yet another holiday! This time they're away to Lisdoonvarna (ooh Lisdoonvarna! Lisdoon, Lisdoon, Lisdoon, Lisdonvarna!... oh wait, no Christy Moore fans among you?! Sorry....) so while my boyfriend and I can enjoy having the house all to ourselves, I have to do all the housework! Wah! Emptying the dishwasher is a right pain!

I hope this layout is better than the previous one, I think it's slightly better. Let me know what you think! Thanks for reading and have a great week everyone!

Glossy Box #3 - July 2011

As many of you will already know, the July Glossy Box arrived with most people on Thursday - including me this time! Yay!  There was some consternation over last month's "let down" box (though I love the body buff from it, was well worth the £10 for me) so there were mixed feelings as to what to expect this month.

I for one am really pleased with most of the items I received so am a happy bunny. I'll try to keep this short!

Weleda Pomegranate Regenerating Body Oil:

I'm not a big fan of putting oily things on my skin as I hate feeling all greased up like some sort of wrestler. However this smells lovely and probably would do wonders for my parched skin so I may give it a go! It is full sized and retails for £19.95, so a great deal anyway by getting this in a £10 box.

Ciaté Paint Pot - #036 Kitten Heels :

This colour is beautiful. A gorgeous red, not too dark, with gold shimmer through it. A jelly like finish that looked great after only one coat! The brush is really easy to work with and the consistency is very smooth. Another full sized product worth £9.00 on its own! I love this and will be wearing it a lot.

Xen Tan - Dark:

I've never tried Xen Tan before, as they're a bit out of my price range and I do love my trusyt St. Moriz. This is 30ml so a good travel size sample. I am slightly worried about using this as it is 'Dark' and I normally go for light fake tans due to how extremely pasty my natural skin tone is! I am also wondering if this little tube would even cover my whole body?! Well we shall see. A full size bottle (236ml) retails for £28.99. My (shoddy) mathematics makes this sample worth £3.70.

Nouveau Strip Lashes:

I do like fake eyelashes for a night out, and funnily, enough, I am going out tonight! If I have time I will use these and see how they fare. They are a brown colour, not black like most fake lashes, so I think they will look very natural when used while still adding length and volume to my own stumps lashes. I can't find a price for these online... but you can hardly get sample sized fake lashes can you? So again a full sized item.

Illamasqua Sheer Lipgloss - Explode:

I've never tried any Illamasqua products before, so it was great to receive this item to try. This colour of gloss, while it may not really suit me (I'm undecided!) is, conversely, a colour I would go for in a shop. It's a sheer, pale pink with a blue, iridescent sheen. Slightly sticky but I think I used too much! It looks beautiful on its own and I think it will also look great over lipstick. Another full sized product worth £13.00.

Not including the lashes, the items received are worth £45.65! So, there you have it. A very commendable July Glossy Box! Plus, thankfully, the email communication from the company has stepped up a notch. I received a notification invoice when the money was taken from my account, plus I received an email telling me that my box has been despatched. I was very happy to receive these, as it just makes life easier really!

I know the boxes differed again this month too; what did you receive? Thanks for reading :)

More E.L.F. Goodies

Last week E.L.F. had another free shipping code (for orders of £10 and over) so I thought I'd treat myself. As you do. The conflict of having no job and no money seems to be that I want to buy everything. Pah. I spent about £16 altogether, as my order also contained a HD Powder (not pictured here) that I got for my mum. Just 'cos :)

Blending Eye Brush & Eyeshadow Brush:

These brushes were £1.50 each. I already have the blending eye brush, which I love, so I figured having a back up is a good idea, especially for the price. I thought I may as well give the eyeshadow brush a try too.

Cream Eyeliner:

I had been itching to try this eyeliner in black after hearing several rave reviews on it, but it seemed to be out of stock for ages. The free shipping code appeared not long after E.L.F. got lots of items back in stock, including this. Wahey! We have lift off. It was £3.50 and comes with this little brush. I did the swatches below on my hand just to get a feel for the consistency and the brush, but I have yet to use it on my eyes as I'm not wearing much make up at the minute (damn painting!). Initial thoughts: the eyeliner seems smooth and creamy, but I wasn't a huge fan of the brush.

Eyelid Primer Collection:

This Eyelid Primer Collection is one of the latest items that E.L.F. have started selling, the introductory price being £3.50. I figured that this was a great price for three eyelid primers, as the regular eyelid primer, which I have just ran out of and love, is £1.50 on its own.

I recently saw a post on Rachel's blog saying that she thought the eyelid primer formula had changed recently, so I was slightly wary about it. The packaging is definitely different; my previous one was more sleek looking with a rubbery feeling top, this one is just plastic. As you can see from the photos, the text was already slightly rubbed off the champagne one.

As regards formula, the nude shade seemed ok when I swatched it but I have yet to wear it on my eyelids, so I will have to see. The pearl and champagne shades however... oh dear. Oh dear, oh dear. Dry and chalky as soon as I opened the tubes. Not creamy in the slightest and I would be surprised if they held my eyeshadow at all. So this item was a bit disappointing.

I have learned that with E.L.F. that items are truly hit or miss. I adore their HD powder, the blending brush, and the mist and set, however if the item turns out to be a miss, it really is a dud. You live and you learn!

What E.L.F. items have you been rating or hating lately?
